Alfredo E. Pascual, the 20th President of the University of the Philippines (U.P.) is this year’s 45th Charter Day speaker during the Charter Day program on July 12, 2013 at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium.

Chancellor Sukarno D. Tanggol, 2013 outstanding UP alumnus for Peace and Social Cohesion, extended the invitation during the dinner and the giving of awards for outstanding UP alumni at the UP campus on June 22, 2013.

Pascual’s visit will be the first for a sitting UP President to the MSU-IIT campus when he comes to speak before an invited faculty, staff and UP alumni of Iligan City on July 11, 2013 at the Institute Boardroom and during the Charter Day program on July 12, 2013.

Before he assumed the presidency of the country’s premier national university in February 2011 for a term of six years, Pascual was President of the UP Alumni Association.

He worked as American Express Professor of Finance and as Director of the Asian Institute of Management’s (AIM) advanced bank management program; the UP Department of Chemistry; and, as a part-time lecturer for four years at the Department of Management Engineering and the Department of Business in the Ateneo de Manila University.

After graduating from college, Pascual’s first job was at the Procter & Gamble as an industrial engineer and a production manager. Later, he worked in various executive positions at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Bancom Development Corp., Philippine Pacific Capital (now RCBC Capital), and First Metro Investment Corp..

Pascual obtained his BS Chemistry (cum laude) and a Master’s in Business Administration from U.P. He attended the EEC-ASEAN Teacher Programme on the Management of Strategic and Organizational Change at the Euro-Asia Center in INSEAD, France, and trained at Nomura Securities in Tokyo, Japan. He was conferred the honorary Doctor of Pedagogy degree by Angeles University Foundation.

At present, Pascual sits on the Board of Trustees of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Chairs the U.P. Foundation, Inc. and the U.P. Provident Fund, Inc., among others. He is a Professorial Lecturer at the College of Economics and Management of U.P. Los Banos. He is a member of professional and civic associations, such as the Management Association of the Philippines, the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX), and the Rotary Club of Makati.
