
The OVCRE Department of Extension (DE) and the Transparency, Integrity, Good Governance (TINGOG), together with the Department of Extension hosted the Kabataan Makialam: A Youth Leaders’ Convergence held on March 5, 2016 at the MSU-IIT Board Room.
The Youth Leaders Convergence is part of the growing advocacy in raising the level of awareness and national consciousness of the youth sector in offering solutions to society. The said convergence was well represented a 40-members of youth civic organizations, student councils and out-of-school youth groups from Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte and Iligan City.
There were two speakers during the event. Ms. Rohanimah Guro, Prime Minister of the MSU-IIT Debate Varsity and founder of Sagip Eksena Initiative shared her views on why there is a need to be informed of what is happening in society. Guro is leading a city-based youth group aiming for art conservation.

The second speaker, Mr. Jahaziel Mark Bahan, incumbent President of the MSU-IIT Kataastaasang Saggunian ng mga Mag-aaral shared his views on the importance of good governance, starting with every youth organization exhibiting his expertise as university student leader for almost three years.
The program also saw an idea building workshop which emphasized on youth solutions to society’s problems. A total of five groups presented their proposals ranging from the housing program, youth apathy and participation in local and school governance.
The event concluded with the signing of the Pact of Unity, attesting to the youth’s promise to be more active in social issues involving governance, environment, gender development and other relevant issues today.
The initiative of the convergence was made by Datu Esma Mikee P. Maruhom, Chairperson of TINGOG. Maruhom is also the immediate past Student Regent of the Mindanao State University System and former President of the MSU-IIT KASAMA.
A second phase of this convergence is being planned by the organizers after the success of the first activity. The program is part of the social responsibility platform of TINGOG, as it envisions for an active youth participation in nation building.
The DE, through its Director, Dr. Nimfa Bracamonte, is maintaining its objectives in providing aid for social development programs as instituted in the WE CARE program of MSU-IIT.
