College of Arts and Social Sciences Professor and IPAG Director Steven Patrick C. Fernandez read a paper and moderated a panel discussion in the 3rd Philippine International Writers Festival in Davao City.

Dubbed Taboan (Cebuano meaning “meeting place”), the festival gathered eighty of the most distinguished Philippine writers and guests from abroad including National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera who delivered the keynote address.

Fernandez lectured on “Transcreation” and moderated the panel on “Spirits of the Place: Local Myths and Folklore and Literature.”

Writers read from their works and shared ideas in this flagship program of the National Committee on Literary Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. The event which featured the theme “Traditions and the New” is a component of the 2011 Philippine International Arts Festival.

This festival cum conference — whose list of attendees read like a Who’s Who in Philippine Letters — was held Feburay 10-12 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel and in various universities in Davao City.
