The Board of Trustees of Xavier University has conferred on Prof. Steven Patrick C. Fernandez, DFA, the Francisco Demetrio Award.

Steven Fernandez - Demetrio Award

In his letter informing Fernandez of the award, Fr. Jose Ramon T. Villarin, SJ, XU President, wrote that the award is given those who have made “significant strides in enriching Philippine culture and the arts, especially in Mindanao.”

Fernandez, Professor of Literature and the Humanities in the College of Arts and Social Sciences, is Artistic Director-Founder of the world-recognized Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG), resident cultural company of the MSU-IIT.

The award is named after the distinguished Dr. Francisco Demetrio, SJ, a pillar of scholarship in Philippine Studies, who authored tomes of works on folklore, Anthropology, and culture, in general. A portion of the Xavier U Museum has been dedicated to his works and memory.

The Demetrio award comes at the heels of another award, The Global Pinoy, which the SM Group of Companies conferred on him last September, 2010.

As awardee, Fernandez will address the graduates of Xavier U during their ceremonies on March 25 during which time the university will also confer the award.
