The shift in the academic calendar from June to March to August to May, the implementation of the K-12 system in basic education, revisiting the academic programs that are over 15 years old and the ASEAN integration this year were some of the considerations in the holding of a two-day Academic Summit for the MSU-IIT.

The summit opened yesterday, June 4, 2015 at the Alemania Hotel’s Berlin Hall with about a hundred participants from MSU-IIT. The theme of the summit is “Positioning MSU-IIT as a World Class University.”
MSU-IIT Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Edgar W. Ignacio said “remarkable changes in education have occurred in the last few years and we can expect even more tremendous ones this year and in the years to come,” during the opening program where he spoke of the Summit Rationale.
Faced with ‘stiff competition from other regions’ he said, the MSU-IIT is at a crucial juncture and the future of the Institute hangs in the balance. He also posed questions of how a university can attain world class status such as “Where are we now? How did we get to this point? Where do we go from here? How do we get there?”

For his part, Chancellor Sukarno D. Tanggol gave a State of his MSU-IIT Address by focusing on the Institute’s achievements during his first five years as Chancellor.

The Summit had as guest speaker Dr. Amelia P. Biglete, Director IV, Office of Programs and Standards Development of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd). Dr. Alma E. Berowa, MSUS Vice President for Academic Affairs also graced the opening day of the summit.

In the afternoon, MSU-IIT’s Vice Chancellors for Academic Affairs, Planning & Development, Research & Extension, Administration & Finance presented their present achievements and future plans while Dr. Cesar G. Demayo of the College of Science and Mathematics gave an assessment of the MSU-IIT’s academic programs.

The second and third day of the summit on June 5-6 will be held at the MSU-IIT College of Engineering Amphi-theater. Workshops will be held to discuss and assess the needs and future plans for MSU-IIT’s faculty, research & extension, students, facilities and support services and for administration and governance in the next five years.
