The Institute’s faculty organization is leading a thoroughgoing observance of World Teacher’s Day on October 5 by involving in the celebration the beneficiaries of the life’s work of every teacher – the students.

The MSU-IIT Faculty Union (FU) may have already lined up a series of activities in the campus to mark the special day, but decided to take it one step further by asking the student organization, KASAMA, to participate.

FU President Prof. Santiago R. Evasco, Jr. said that they set aside a portion of the program to give students of IIT a chance to show their appreciation for their teachers.

“It is time for the youth, the students to give recognition and honor to their teachers,” Evasco explained.

Aside from the student portion of the program that is viewed to complete the commemoration of World Teacher’s Day in the campus, Evasco said that the FU will start the day with a Zumba session at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Integrated Developmental School and flower planting at a small patch of field across the Institute Clinic.

Evasco said that the main program will run from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, and will feature speeches from invited resource persons, interactions with teachers, and a portion wherein the faculty members can highlight their concerns.

Other activities planned for the day are parlor games, a talent show, and t-shirt printing.

World Teacher’s Day is a United Nations (UN) initiative that asks the world to take a pause on October 5 of every year and commemorate the work of teachers and teacher organizations, especially in the field of education and development.

Its observance started in 1994.
