With the theme, “Championing SDGs through Grassroots Action Of, For and By All,” the Youth for UNESCO International Assembly aims to promote collaborations to push forward the ideals of UNESCO and campaign for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at grassroots level. This international annual event was held at the Cebu Normal University from September 21-23, with roughly a 100-delegation composed of community volunteers, student leaders and young professionals from UNESCO’s accredited clubs and youth organizations from the Philippines and around the globe.

Two MSU-IIT participants attended the Youth for UNESCO International Assembly including Mr. Jan Mart Calimpong, a 4th year BS HRM student and former student governor of CBAA, who represented the Rotaract Club of Metro Iligan. Other participants represented different schools from across the Philippines such as University of the Philippines, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Siliman University and Xavier University. Mr. Calimpong took part in crafting resolutions for the Committee on Culture and for which he was recognized as one of the best speakers in the assembly.

The assembly consisted of various activities that encourage the involvement of youth leaders in addressing SDGs. It had plenary sessions delivered by speakers from leading government organizations, and breakout sessions for participants to share ideas and best practices that enhance the understanding of grassroots action of various UNESCO clubs.
