GAD Center preps for next round of gender sensitivity trainings
by Rex Godinez Ortega, Office of the Chancellor

The Institute’s Gender and Development (GAD) Center is gearing up to hold the next series of Gender Sensitivity Trainings (GST’s) for its faculty and staff members in October and November 2016.
The center is scheduling four sessions for this round of trainings, all to be held in nearby Cagayan de Oro City.
MSU-IIT, through the GAD Center, is mandated to implement GAD programs, activities, and projects for its constituents and in its immediate environs.
GST’s seek to introduce participants to the concept of gender sensitivity by teaching them about gender and the existing gender relations in society.
In particular, it tries to impart an acceptance of the differences in the needs and priorities of men and women and an understanding of the fact that if both sexes are given equal opportunities, development will follow.
Special Order No. 1861-IIT issued on Monday authorized the GAD Center to use P858,400 from its fund for the conduct of the trainings that will happen on October 20-22; October 27-29; November 10-12; and November 17-19.
GAD focal person and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Jinky B. Bornales chairs the steering committee formed for the activity.
In her letter to Chancellor Sukarno D. Tanggol, Bornales said that the trainings aim to “define and level off gender concepts, issues, and perspectives”.
Bornales identified the resource person for the trainings as Ms Nathalie T. Igot, the supervising program specialist and GAD focal person of the Commission on Higher Education’s Region 10 office in Cagayan de Oro City.
Igot is also a certified national resources pool member of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).
The PCW is the government agency under the Office of the President that is working for the advancement of women.
