
Kamlian honored as co-author of the winning book, Out of the Shadows, at the 36th National Book Awards

Faculty member of the Department of History and Campus Secretary Dr. Jamail A. Kamlian was recently recognized for his contribution as co-author in the book Out of the Shadows: Violent, Conflict and the Real Economy of Mindanao.
The book was hailed Best Book in the Social Sciences by the National Book Development Board and the Manila Critics Circle during the 36th National Book Awards on December 2, 2017, at the National Museum in Manila.

Kamlian authors a whole chapter that talks about the Pagsanda Credit System in Sulu.

The book contains different case studies that discuss the resilience and thriving nature of shadow economies in Mindanao, how these impact in the conflict resolution and democratic change in the region, and the implications of the findings for policies and interventions to peacebuilding, development, and governance.
