With the Muslim world celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan, MSU-IIT remains steadfast with its aim in fostering unity in diversity.

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Extension (OVCRE) Department of Extension (DE), headed by Dr. Nimfa Bracamonte, and the MSU-IIT Muslim Students Association (MIMSA) spearheaded Ramdamin ang Ramadan 2015, a seminar about the Muslim celebration of Ramadan on June 13, 2015 at the College of Nursing Hall.

The ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is observed by Muslims around the world as a period of fasting and intense prayer in commemoration of the first revelation of the Holy Book, the Quran, to the Prophet Muhammad. It is considered as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts for 29-30 days.

The seminar serves as window of learning for Muslims and non-Muslims alike, in knowing more the essence and value of the Holy Month. The gathering of 350 participants listened to four lectures by Islamic teachers on the following: Tradition of Welcoming Ramadan, Virtues and Essence of Ramadan, Misconceptions on Ramadan and Welcoming the Holy Month.

“The seminar is a proof of the Institute’s continuing commitment in promoting unity between Muslims and Christians, and in solidarity of our brothers and sisters in Islam,” says Dr. Bracamonte. “It is also a testament of our belief in peaceful co-existence despite the harrowing effects of the Mindanao conflict,” she adds.

MIMSA, headed by Abdul Rachman Simban as President, continues to work with the Institute in maintaining peaceful relations among Muslim and non-Muslim students through information drives and trainings.
