MSU-IIT College of Education, recognized by CHED as COE by virtue of CMO No. 17, Series of 2016, is one of the founding members of Philippine Teacher Education Network (PhilTEN).

PhilTEN is an organization composed of premier Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in the country and was formed during the meeting of the Centers of Excellence for Teacher Education in the Philippines through their university presidents, college deans, and authorized representatives, on September 23, 2016 at Hotel Jen, Manila. The meeting was held to forge a professional and institutional alliance that will expand the Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) in the Philippines.

PhilTEN aims to provide a venue for discussion among local TEIs on the pressing issues and challenges in constructing a shared ASEAN identity. Likewise, it aims to serve as an organization reasonable enough to recommend policies and programs in setting the future directions of teacher education in the country. Within the network, member universities, which promote excellence in teacher education, commit to enhance the professional competence of its teacher education faculty though research collaboration and relevant professional development programs.

The Philippine Normal University-Manila holds the chairmanship during the first two years of its establishment. After PNU’s term, the next Chair will be elected among member TEIs.

AsTEN, its parent organization, was founded in 2014 by the Philippine Normal University-Manila and eight other top TEIs in the ASEAN region which include the National Institute of Education-Cambodia, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia – Indonesia, National University of Laos – Laos, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris – Malaysia, Yangon University of Education – Myanmar, University of Social Sciences and Humanities – Vietnam, National Institute of Education – Singapore, and Kasetsart University – Thailand.
