Under the MOU, MSU-IIT and LS-NTU will engage in academic exchanges of faculty, researchers, administrative staff and students for a period of three years. Also included in the mutual agreements are collaborative research projects, application of research permits, exchange of academic information and materials, and promotion of academic cooperation.

MSU-IIT’s College of Arts and Social Sciences made formal its partnership with Far Eastern University. Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Dr. David N. Almarez and FEU Dean of the Institute of Arts and Sciences Dr. Joel M. Chavez signed the Memorandum of Agreement on May 29, 2015 at the MSU-IIT Boardroom.
The plan for collaboration between the two Institutions dates back to 2013 when several faculty members of the Department of English went to Manila to present their papers in the 11th ASIA TEFL International Conference. According to Prof. Jean Graciela E. Peñola, Chairperson of the English Department, it was part of their benchmarking of curriculums and facilities in the universities around Manila that brought them to an initial engagement with FEU.
It was only recently that the planned partnership between the two was revived. Due to the English Department’s application for Center of Excellence with the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), they were able to re-establish ties with former students who have excelled in their respective careers, one of which is Mr. Arthur Pizaro who is presently connected with FEU.
It only took FEU a few days to confirm and schedule the MOA signing for what took two years since its initial planning.
The FEU Institute of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Joel M. Chavez represented the FEU together with its Institute’s respective program heads: Jorge P. Ciubillas of the Filipino Department, Diego Jose R. Abad from Literature, Ildefonso Fulgar from Political Science, Ana Nelia Jumamil of the Psychology Department, and other faculty members, Roger Bingculado and Arthur Pizaro. The representative for IIT was Dr. Almarez with the Department Chairpersons of CASS and some faculty members of the English Department.
Areas of concern in the MOA between the two universities include teacher-student exchanges, research collaboration, and academic cooperation such as trainings and seminars. Specific plans and proposals have been discussed between corresponding departments.
Far Eastern University also expressed their great interest in Mindanao’s culture and folklore. This tie-up with FEU initiated by CASS is only the beginning of a partnership that would expand across disciplines in providing the Institute with access and collaborations, and vice versa.
