March 15, 2019- The resident cultural group of MSU-IIT, Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) performs another dazzling stage show at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium with audiences from the Iligan Computer Insitute (ICI), Lyceum of Iligan Foundation, and MSU-IIT students and faculty. The show’s piece, Sita: Ramayana Revisited, has been performed many times by the group, but one never gets tired to have a repeat. Ramayana (Sanskrit for Rama’s Journey) is a Hindu epic and one of the largest in the world literature. The IPAG show builds around Sita, the consort of Lord Rama, who was abducted by the demon king Ravana and consequently Rama had to rescue Sita. In the Hindu epic, Sita epitomizes purity and virtue and when Rama refuses to believe her faithfulness to him and demands proof, she steps into the flame. It follows that Sita wasn’t touched by the fire proving that she did not betray her husband neither in thought or in action. The theatrical depiction of IPAG of Valmiki’s Ramayana brought life to the epic receiving thunderous applause from the audience. The subtle nuances of every movement and facial expressions of the show’s performers speaks volume of the quality of performance of the institute’s resident group.
Honing talents in the theater arts and showcasing it in the world stage, the MSU-IIT resident cultural group is under the creative direction of Dr. Steven Patrick Fernandez. As MSU-IIT pride nothing is more spectacular, but to witness them perform in the MSU-IIT stage. The Sita: Ramayana Revisited of IPAG is no less another remarkable feat to witness.

The Department of Marketing, in coordination with the Philippine Marketing Association, held the “Mindanao Roadshow 2015” on Nov. 6 at the MSU-IIT Gym. The event was organized by the Junior Entrepreneurial Marketing Students (JEMS) society and attended by more than 500 students from MSU-IIT, MSU Marawi, MSU Naawan, St. Michael’s College, and Iligan Medical Center College.
The activity kicked off with an invitation from Ms. Ann Cristine Palisoc, the Agora Youth Awards Chair and President of Phil Wacoal Corp., for the students to join the annual prestigious Agora Youth Awards. This longstanding national competition is organized by the Philippine Marketing Association in search for the best marketing plans produced by students for household brands such as Sun Cellular and Mang Inasal. This year, the winning entry came from the Institute’s Department of Marketing, which was awarded as the “Marketing School of the Year” after besting 9 other universities.
The event’s highlight, however, was the talk on “Creating a Marketing Plan in the Digital Age” by Mr. Albet Buddahim, Managing Director of IPG Mediabrands and former Agora Youth Awardee. “Advancing Innovation and Technopreneurship In Mindanao”, the theme for the Technnovation 2014 fittingly describes the intentions of the Organizers in conducting the MSU-IIT First Innovation and Technology Fair dubbed Technnovation 2014 at the Institute Mini-theater on September 25-26, 2014.
The activity hosted by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension in coordination with the Intellectual Property Unit ( IPU) – Innovation and Technology Support Office ( IPU –ITSO) and the Commission on Higher Education – Philippines Higher Education Research Network ( CHED- PHERnet ) Center was co-sponsored by MSU-IIT’s industry partners. USAID STRIDE, Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation, Holcim Cement, PILMICO, Nutra Tech Biopharma and PhilDev provided the prizes, trophies and other support during the activity . Industry partners also served as judges for the various competitions done during the Technnovation.
Technnovation 2014 showcased science, technology and engineering R & D results, developed technologies, innovations and inventions of Institute graduate and undergraduate students with their faculty advisers. It is an initiative directed towards creating a vibrant technology marketplace for the creative undertakings of the academe.
Twenty seven ( 27 ) teams exhibited their projects and were categorized into 4 clusters. Cluster A are technologies and innovations pertaining to Energy; Computer Apps/ Games & Animation while Cluster B is for R & D on Environment, Cluster C is on Health and Pharmaceuticals / Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Cluster D is Food & nutrition /Education research results. The event was also an opportunity to heighten awareness on innovation. The talk of Dr. Gary Wnek , a professor of the School of Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio who delivered his lecture via Skype summarized the present innovation climate in the academe. According to him, “we (academe) are not doing a very good job at innovation”… . He added that we should train students to be innovators and prepare them for success outside the academe. This contention was substantiated by the Creative Productivity Index report of the Asian Development Bank and Economic Intelligence Unit published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer on September 12, 2014. The article reported that the Philippines placed 18th among the 22 Asian Economies including USA and Finland for comparative purposes. The index shows the efficiency of countries to convert their creative inputs into innovations.
Participants also listened to some success stories of researchers who, through perseverance and continued innovation, were able to market their products.

The panelists were Dr. Alita T. Roxas, the Dean of School of Graduate Studies as Lead Discussant and panel members composed of Dr. H.Ramos, Engr. Racsa, Dir. Dimamay, Engr.
