Prof. Nathaniel C. Tarranza and Engr. Kenny B. Cantila of the Department of Civil Engineering, College of Engineering, presented their paper “Increasing the Structural Efficiency of Precast Reinforced Concrete Slab Strip in Bending by Notching at Tension Zone” during the joint 9th Asia Pacific Structural Engineering and Construction Conference (APSEC ) and 8th Asean Civil Engineering Conference (ACEC) held on November 3-5, 2015 at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Kuala Lumpur.

Tarranza also chaired one of the morning sessions of the said conference.

The conference provided a venue for dissemination of research outputs, new technologies and advancements in civil engineering.

About 125 papers were presented during the conference attended by participants from ASEAN countries, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, India, Pakistan, Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

The event is one of the regional conferences sponsored by AUN/SEED-Net, a network of ASEAN and Japanese universities which includes MSU-IIT, University of the Philippines, and De La Salle University as member institutions.

AUN/SEED-Net is supported by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Tarranza’s attendance to the conference was sponsored by AUN/SEED-Net and Cantila’s by the ERDT.

CEd faculty atttend conference in Kuala Lumpur

Three faculty members of the College of Education’s (CEd) Department of Home Technology Education read their papers during the Global Summit on Education(GSE2014) held at Radius International Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last March 4-5, 2014.

The faculty members and the titles of their papers are: Prof. Yolanda P. Garcia,“Difficulties In Reading Comprehension And Metacognitive Strategies For Technology Livelihood Education Students”; Ms. Avril Joy R. Ramayan, Choices And Nutritional Awareness Of Students In Iligan City National High School; and, Dr. Judith A. Magnetico, Students’ Evaluation of the BS Hotel and Restaurant Management Program: Basis for Future Curriculum Revision”.

During the summit, Magnetico and Garcia were also chosen chairpersons in the different sessions.

The GSE 2014 was an interdisciplinary international conference that invited academicians, scholars and researchers, with broad and diverse research interests across disciplines and from around the world to meet and exchange with the latest ideas and views.

The main objectives of this conference were to provide a forum and effective medium for academicians, scientists, scholars and researchers; to present the results of their research activities in the various disciplines, themes and areas in education field, to discuss research that contribute to the sharing of new ideas, innovations theoretical, methodological, empirical knowledge and problem solving techniques to promote better mutual understanding in the various disciplines.
