Mach 17, 2019 – Regional Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (RFJPIA) – X and CARAGA held the 1st Regional Academic Conference (RAC) at Grand Caprice Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City with the theme ACCELERATE: Transcending Adversities through Effective Education and Communication.
The RAC was a one-day event conducted in order to inform the students of BS Accountancy and other related courses of the latest updates in the accounting field including IFRS 17 – Insurance Contracts; IFRS 15 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers; RA 11232 – Revised Corporation Code of the Philippines; and RA 11213 – Tax Amnesty Act among others. Event partners were SyCip Gorres Velayo & Co. and Reyes Tacandong & Co.
The conference was made possible through the initiative of the Regional Council to achieve the organization’s goal of providing its members activities that will actively hone their capabilities as future professionals. Invited speakers were Atty. Jessieh Rey B. Curammeng, CPA, CIA, JD for the Revised Corporation Code of the Philippines and IFRS 15; Gay S. Malolot, CPA for the Tax Amnesty Act; and Dr. Heidi Grace D. Mendoza, CPA for the Career Talk regarding accountancy as a profession.
This event was actively participated by the members of RFJPIA – X and CARAGA. “Even with the hectic schedule, the council really wanted to push through with the event because we wanted our constituents to keep updated with the changes in the accounting profession and CPALE syllabus that will help them in their quest for the CPA title,” said by the regional president, Sheena V. Cuizon.
After ruling last semester’s Midyear Convention, this year’s host, MSU-IIT’s Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) achieved back-to-back championship against other competing schools in the NFJPIA Region X & CARAGA’s 25th Annual Regional Convention (ARC) held last February 24-26, 2017.
JPIAns had once again proven their supremacy in different academic and nonacademic competitions as they bagged several trophies and medals.
For the academic events, Jean Claire Polancos won 1st place in Cup 1 (Financial Accounting and Reporting), Floyd Cesar Tacbas also landed as 1st placer in Cup 2 ( Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting), Rizza Belle Maata won 3rd place in Cup 3 ( Management Advisory Services), Kristofferson Cariño won 2nd place in Cup 4 ( Regulatory Framework for Business Transacation), Maureen Ane Intang won 2nd place in Cup 5 (Auditing), Jeffrey Hipayo also won 2nd place in Cup 6 (Taxation), and Mark Anthony Rosales finished as 1st placer in both Cup 3 (MAS) and Cup 7 ( All Board Exam Subject). Jahaziel Mark Bahan, Frances Bequilla, Jovelyn Cabal, and Xaviery John Luna ranked 1st place in the Whizkids Competition and MSU-IIT was hailed Overall Champion for the academic events.
The participants also excelled in the nonacademic events as MSU-IIT won 3rd place in Mixed Table Tennis, 3rd place in Dobledoble Kara, 2nd place in Dance Sports Competition, 2nd Best Picture and Best Screenplay in CineJPIA for the short film entry “Duyog”, 1st place in Mixed Volleyball, Most Valuable Player Award (Basketball) for Mark Jison Sebog, 1st place in the Debate Cup with Bai Djanemah Macabangkit as the Best Speaker, 1st place in Pop Dance Competition, 1st place in the Acoustic Band Competition, and Overall First Runner-up for the nonacademic events.
For the year-end awards, Jeffrey Hipayo was recognized as this year’s Most Outstanding JPIAn and Charles Flores as the Most Outstanding Local Chapter President.
When asked about the winning secret of MSU-IIT, Mr. Flores said that the key words for their victory are “PLANNING” and “DISCIPLINE”. He further stressed that this success did not come overnight for in fact, the local chapter had spent months preparing, formulating plans A to Z, considering every contingencies and circumstances. “Then, it only took discipline to make things go as planned” he added.
The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) MSU-IIT local chapter from the Accountancy Department of CBAA participated in this year’s 15th Regional Mid-year convention making a grand comeback as champions. The said convention was hosted by Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan on September 23-25, 2016. A148 MSU-IIT delegation ardently yelled its cheers and raised its flag with burning spirit and pride as it successfully brought the bacon back home.
The JPIA MSU-IIT local chapter amassed places in the academic competitions, garnering the title “Over-all champion for the Academic Events”. In the Cup Series, Cup 1(Financial Accounting and Reporting) Carl Vencent Niñofranco and Kent Robert Lumanas won 1st and 2nd place respectively, Cup 2 (Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting) Mark Antony Rosales won 1st place, Cup 5 (Auditing) Jenessa Tumanda won 1st place and Maureen Anne Intang in 2nd place, Cup 6 (Taxation) Jeffrey Hipayo won 3rd place, Cup 7 (All Board Exam Subjects) is won by Mark Antony Rosales in 1st place. MSU-IIT also reaped 1st placed in the FS Wars represented by Sittie Eimman Macmod, Niña Segunda Alvia, and Pauline Erika Ocampo.
Not giving other schools a slack in the non-academic events, MSU-IIT also bagged championship in the Lyrical Dance Competition, with the flawless performance of Angela Nicole Torayno and Al Naim Azis. Moreover, the school secured 3rd place in the Lip-sync battle performed by Carl Vencent Niñofranco and Sheena Cuizon.
The feat comes after a month of painstaking preparation, with the JPIA MSU-IIT local chapter fighting against all odds. With fists thrown up and flag held high, the 148 IITians made their way back home carrying their earned trophies, medals, certificates, and glory back home whilst singing the MSU Hymn with hearts joyful and proud.
