MSU-IIT co-hosts 6th ICONPO in Thailand

Once again, the Institute co-hosted the International Conference on Public Organization (ICONPO) during its 6th conference last August 10-11, 2016 at the Thammasat University, Bangkok, Thailand.

MSU-IIT delegates headed by Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Prof. David N. Almarez represented the Institute. There were 24 faculty delegates namely: Fatimah Joy Almarez (Department of English); Xandelyn Racel Baena, Rohane Derogongan, Munap Hairulla, Marjorie Joy Almario-Magdadaro, Trizer Dale Mansueto, Michael Anthony Ngo, Jamelyn Palattao, Manolita Olores-Regalado, Cecilia Tangian (Department of History); Hilton Aguja, Princess Mae Chua, Elizabeth Codilla, Eucil Pabatang-Hussien, Marilou Siton-Nanaman, Perla Palomares (Department of Political Science); Alma Maranda, Antoniette Zacarina Sansona (Department of Psychology); Jay Rey G. Alovera, Septrin John Calamba, Maria Cecilia Ferolin, Myrma Jean Mendoza, Sulpecia Ponce (Department of Sociology); and Jiddo Andei Maranda (College of Nursing).

They were joined by three staff delegates Katrina Codilla (Guidance Counselling Center), Sittie Akima Ali (Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance), and Irene Estrada (Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension). A total of 82 students were also counted as presenters to the said conference; these students are either sole authors of their respective studies or co-authors of studies with their respective faculty advisers. A total of 188 papers were presented in the conference; the Institute delegates presented a total of 56 papers.

With the theme, “Information, Open Government, Democratic Governance, and Public Administration,” the conference had one plenary session and 34 parallel sessions. Prof. Dr. Chaiwat Satha-Anand of Thammasat Univeristy gave the keynote lecture. All of the delegates from the Institute presented their respective papers in the parallel sessions.

In the same conference, the founding members met and agreed that the next ICONPO will be hosted by Indonesia in 2017.

The Institute, through the College of Arts and Social Sciences, is one of the seven founding members of ICONPO which was organized and founded on January 30, 2011 at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia. To date, ICONPO has ten members.

Due to overwhelming researches submitted and presented in ICONPO, the Executive Committee of ICONPO established the Asia Pacific Society for Public Affairs (APSPA) last February 20, 2013 at the University of Ngurah Rai, Indonesia during the 3rd ICONPO.

MSU-IIT hosted the 5th ICONPO last August 26-27, 2015 at Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City with the theme, “ASEAN Integration: Opportunities and Challenges.”
