SCS celebrates 13th year of the Iligan Computer Fair
by Ian S. Embradura, OPI

In its efforts to convene different sectors of the community whose common interests are in Information and Communications Technology (ICT), the Institute’s School of Computer Studies (SCS) hosted the 13th Iligan City Computer Fair (ICCF) on September 16-18, 2015.
This year’s ICCF had a variety of activities –a technical seminar, a research forum, quiz shows, and competitions in computer hardware servicing, IT Networks and System Administration, Digital Arts—which were held simultaneously at the SCS Laboratories and the Institute Gymnasium.

Over 300 participants around Mindanao–professionals, educators, and students—came to MSU-IIT to attend this year’s computing fair.
“The aim of having an ICCF is to really make the ICT arena vibrant in Mindanao” SCS Dean Alquine Roy F. Taculin said.
In the opening program, the Iligan City Government, which sponsored the event, was represented by Arnold A. Garbanzos of the Iligan Investment, Incentive, and Promotion. Garbanzos expressed plans in turning Iligan City into an ICT hub in Mindanao, especially with IIT.

Both Taculin and Garbanzos agreed that an event such as the ICCF not only adds to the local tourism of the city, but also cements Iligan City and IIT on the map of ICT in the Philippines.
