The ECE of MSU-IIT landed Top 2 Performing School with a passing rate of 89.47% in the recently concluded April 2018 Electronics Engineering Board Exams given by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

34 out of 38 examinees passed the licensure exam given on April 4-5, 2018 at PRC Testing Centers in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao. Out of the 2,663 examinees, only 1,208 passed the exam making the national passing rate at 45.36%.

John Xavier P. Toledo grabs the second spot of the Electronics Technician (ECT) licensure exam. He graduated Cum Laude of his batch.

A year earlier, the ECE program was the only Top Performing School in the April 2017 ECE/ECT Licensure Exam with a passing rate of 88.89%.

This recent feat is again a remarkable one for the Electronics Engineering. IIT’s ECE is the lone CHED’s Center of Excellence in ECE in the Visayas and Mindanao region.

uC-IC Program and Project Leaders

In line with the thrust of MSU-IIT to be a research university, the Electronics Engineering (ECE) program has accepted the challenge. IIT’s ECE is the only ECE program throughout the Visayas and Mindanao region being recognized by CHED as Center of Excellence.

DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) granted 25.5 million pesos to the program “µC-IC: Design of Microcontroller Integrated with Energy Harvesting and Power Management. The program will run for three (3) years from March 2017 to March 2020.

The program headed by Prof. Jefferson Hora (also the project 1 leader) has three (3) projects – microcontroller unit (project 1); power management unit (project 2); and energy harvesting unit (project 3). Prof. Allenn Lowaton and Prof. Chinet Mocorro – Overstreet are the project 2 and project 3 leaders, respectively.

The team is comprised of at least ten (10) research assistants; research staff; program and project leaders. The program will design (and have it fabricated in Taiwan) a single integrated circuit (IC) chip that can harvest energy from the ambient sources and perform vital functions for smart buildings, smart farming, risk reduction control and industrial applications, to name a few.

Moreover, CHED earlier this year granted the MicroLab an 8.5 million pesos research grant.

The Microelectronics faculty members, the MS Electrical Engineering students – Microelectronics track and all BSECE senior students are taking part in the 41 million-peso worth of research activities funded by the DOST-PCIEERD, CHED and USAID-STRIDE.

Currently, among HEIs in the entire country, it is only UP-Diliman and MSU-IIT that has a complete set of digital, analog and mixed signal integrated circuits design tools.

MSU-IIT’s Electronics Engineering (ECE) once again proved its excellence for being the lone Top Performing School with a passing rate of 88.89% in April 2017 Electronics Engineering Licensure Board Exam given by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

Engr. Darryl Dave G. Ditucalan clinched the Top 3 spot among the examinees with a rating of 88.20%. Moreover, Robert Leemar Malolot Bagundol, Kriz Kevin Cantago Adrivan and Darryl Dave Getaruelas Ditucalan all landed on the third spot with a rating of 89% of the Electronics Technician (ECT) Exam.

24 out of 27 examinees passed the licensure exam given on April 2-4, 2017 at PRC Testing Centers in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao. Out of the 2,503 examinees, only 1,033 passed the exam making the national passing rate at 41.30%.

Ditucalan, the 2016 Institute Class Salutatorian and COE Class Valedictorian was the first Summa Cum Laude graduate of the College of Engineering since it opened in 1977.

This recent feat is a remarkable one for the Electronics Engineering. IIT’s ECE is the lone CHED’s Center of Excellence in ECE in the Visayas and Mindanao region. The program subjected itself to the Washington Accord Accreditation last 2015.

The faculty members of the Electronics Engineering Professors Angiline Teatro, Jefrey Pasco, Allenn Lowaton, Meriam Gay Bautista and Jefferson Hora visited the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) and Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan on July 2, 2015.

The said activity is in line with the month-long lectures Wireless Sensor Node focusing on biomedical applications by visiting professor, Dr. Eryk Dutkeiwicz from Macquarie University, Australia.

Dutkeiwicz gave lectures at MUST and at XU-Ateneo de Cagayan to the audience comprised of Electrical/Electronics engineering faculty and senior students.

Bautista, currently a PhD student of Macquarie University and an advisee of Dutkeiwicz talked about her experiences as a foreign student in Australia. She also gave insights and helpful tips regarding the scholarships currently being offered by the Macquarie University and by the Australian government.

The group led by Hora, the Electrical / Electronics/ Computer Engineering Department Chair met with MUST Engr. Diogenes Pascua, an ECE faculty and Engr. Lloyd Estampa, ECE Chair. The group also made a courtesy call on the MUST’s Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ruth Cabahug to discuss matters regarding institutional collaborations between MUST and MSU-IIT.

In the afternoon, the group proceeded to Xavier University and was received by Engr. Maijah Collado, an ECE faculty; Engr. Ian Giovanni Pabillaran, the ECE Chair and Dr. Hercules Cascon, the College of Engineering Dean.

Hora took the opportunity to introduce the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering major in Microelectronics being offered by the EECE Department. His talk aimed to invite students and faculty members to enroll in the said program.

He also discussed the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) scholarships being offered. Lastly, he invited the ECE faculty members from MUST and XU to participate in the week-long “Analog Integrated Circuits (IC) Design Training” which will be held at the Microelectronics Lab at the College of Engineering from July 27 – July 31, 2015.
