Cinq Solutions, a team composed of MSU-IIT students from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy bested other four teams and was declared the first runner-up during this year’s Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Global Business Challenge, a business competition designed to bring out the best in the young business leaders of tomorrow, took place at Century Park Hotel, Manila on June 20, 2014.
CBAA student Katrina B. Baliling of the Cinq Solutions was awarded the Best Speaker of the said event sponsored by Philippine Duplicators Inc., distributor of Gestetner products.
From an initial 43 participating teams that submitted a written recommendation reports on the Merbatty Boat Company Case last April 1, only six finalist teams were chosen to be part of the finals.
The six finalist teams were composed of four from the province of Luzon: two teams from De La Salle University-Dasmariñas; one from Polytechnic University of the Philippines and another from Far Eastern University); one from the Visayas (University of St. La Salle Bacolod) and one from Mindanao, the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).
The Mindanao team from MSU-IIT was composed of Katrina B. Baliling, Gay S. Malolot, Lyca D. Lim, and their team leader Bryan Joseph D. Jumawid, and their mentor, Professor of Accountancy, Wilfreda O. Loable.
The MSU-IIT group name is Cinq Solutions to suggest a consultant’s name. The word cinq is from the Old French cinc which in turn is from the Latin quinque meaning “five.”
The six finalist-teams presented and defended their case solutions with questions from a panel of judges.
The five judges were from the different multinational organizations and firms led by the chief judge of the event, Dr.Amirul Shah, Chairman for Centre of Excellence South East Asia, CIMA. The rest were Christopher Bautista, CFO for Malls, SM Prime Holdings Inc., Prof. Florenz C. Tugas, CIMA Reviewer, DLSU – Taft, Leonardo Cuaresma, COO and Head of Audit Division of Punongbayan and Araullo, and Roy Teoh, Director of Asia Client Operations Group.
