MSU-IIT is set to welcome back to the campus its returning high school alumni on December 28 with the MSU-IIT High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) lining-up several activities for the day that will culminate in a tribal-themed neon party at the Institute gymnasium in the evening.

Chancellor Sukarno D. Tanggol said that the Institute awaits its high school alumni with open arms, as the alumni’s presence in the campus every December 28 is indicative of their healthy relationship with the school and their former teachers.

“Such a bond between graduates and their school is almost sacred, and deserves to be strengthened by the observance of this yearly tradition,” Tanggol said.

The MSU-IIT high school alumni homecoming nets far more alumni attendees than its college counterpart (held every July), making it undoubtedly the grander tradition of the Institute.

MSU-IIT traces its beginnings to 1956 when the Iligan City High School was turned into the Lanao Technical School by R.A. No. 1562. Two more laws and two name changes later, the school became MSU-IIT in 1968.

The 2016 MHSAA Grand Alumni Homecoming, touted to be the biggest and grandest [alumni-held] event for the year, is hosted by Batch 1991 that graduated when IIT’s laboratory high school, the Integrated Developmental High School (IDS), was still called Developmental High School or DHS.

The homecoming will start with a eucharistic service at 8 a.m. at the IDS Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) followed by a tribal float procession around the city at 10 a.m.

When the procession returns to the campus, the high school alumni will then get a chance to spend time and catch up with their former teachers in a luncheon to be held at the IDS MPH.

The homecoming night party at the gymnasium will open at 5:30 p.m. with the giving of The Outstanding High School Alumni (TOHSA) Awards.

After the TOHSA awarding ceremony, the fellowship dubbed, “Tribal Neon Party,” will commence.

The 2016 MHSAA Grand Alumni Homecoming has for its theme, Illuminate and be the Light in the Dark.
