With the implementation of the Institute’s new Research Dissemination Award, MSU-IIT researchers who have either internally or externally funded researches now have better opportunities to disseminate the outputs of their work through participating in wider networks of conferences and fora. Last March 14-15, 2019, MSU-IIT became the only Philippine Institution to participate in the 2019 Future of Information and Communication Conference (FICC 2019) held at the Park Central Hotel, San Francisco, California, USA.
FICC 2019 attracted a total of 462 submissions from international academic pioneering researchers, scientists, industrial engineers, and students from all around the world. These submissions underwent a double-blind peer review process.Out of the 160 research presentations participated by both IEEE and ACM members, Asso. Prof. Lemuel Clark P. Velasco, Manager of FAB LAB Mindanao and faculty of the College of Computer Studies represented the Institute in an oral research presentation entitled “Performance Analysis of Artificial Neural Networks Training Algorithms and Activation Functions in Day-ahead Base, Intermediate, and Peak Load Forecasting”. The study which was part of the internally funded research under the Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM) Applied Mathematics and Statistics Group was the only FICC 2019 paper presentation to come from the Philippines. With less than 35% acceptance rate, FICC 2019 chaired by Pascal Lorenz of the University of Haute Alsace, France and Kohei Arai of Saga University, Japan provided a forum for researchers from both academia and industry to share their latest research contributions and exchange knowledge with the common goal of shaping the future of Information and Communication specifically in the fields of communication, ambient intelligence, data science, computing, Internet-of-Things, machine learning, human-centric computing and security and privacy.
