With the Institute in full march of achieving research university status, commercialization efforts of research outputs as well as engagements with industries and international research networks has been one of MSU-IIT’s priorities. Last October 22-25, 2018, the research team from FAB LAB Mindanao, College of Nursing, College of Engineering and Technology and the School of Computer Studies was chosen by the Global Innovation Through Science and Technology of the U.S. State Department to attend the 2018 GIST APEC Startup Training in Brisbane, Australia.
The research team lead by Assoc. Prof. Lemuel Clark Velasco with Dr. Minnie Mamauag and Engr. Karl Martin Aldueso as team members of an internally funded research by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension participated in an intensive innovation commercialization training. In partnership with the Government of Australia, the Australian Academy of Science and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, 20 teams from 14 APEC countries with MSU-IIT, being one of the two teams representing the Philippines, participated in the GIST APEC Start up Training with the focus of supporting and training science and technology entrepreneurs. In the said start-up training, MSU-IIT team landed the Top 5 best pitch among the delegates around the world for the wandering elderly innovation technology. Through this on-the-ground training and mentoring by GIST, the Institute has upgraded its capabilities by strengthening its innovation ecosystem and global linkages.
