The regional competition was conducted last February in Iligan City by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-X) in partnership with the MSU-IIT.

Andoy and Gomez are TESDA certified students of the Institute.

The MSU-IIT has consistently received national recognitions in the Philippine Skills Competition (PNSC) in previous outings in 2007 and 2009. The institute represented the country in Mechatronics at the 8th ASEAN Skills Competition held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2010.

Both winners are now in the thick of training handled by their coach, Faith Q. Baldonado and Cesar S. Gabo, professors of the MSU-IIT. In an interview during the awarding ceremony in the Cagayan de Oro Bugo School of Arts and Trades, the representatives promised to give their best.

This 9th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC), an event initiated in Malaysia in 1995, aims to upgrade the skills of the workforce of the ASEAN-member countries and to align these skills to an accepted international standard.

OIC-Regional Director Engr. Edgar A. Sales of TESDA Northern Mindanao beamed with optimism: “We are honored to once again represent the Philippines in the 9th ASEAN Skills Competition. Region X has proven in the precedent years to be home of the best blue-collar individuals and we are certainly looking forward in bringing home the prestig once more.” (Michelle Empleo-Recanel/PIO-Designate)
