MSU-IIT College of Nursing (CON) student Isabel Brazil bagged the top award as the “Best in Oral Presentation” (Nursing and Health Promotion/Public Health) in her study “Effectiveness of Applying Hand Sanitizer versus Rubbing Alcohol as Hand Hygiene among Selected MSU-IIT Students”.
The study, in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences, had Bernie Casera of the CON as thesis adviser and Mark Anthony Israel Jose from the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) as co-adviser.
Brazil was with the team of senior undergraduates of the CON who joined researchers from different nursing schools in the country at the 1st Philippine Forum for Nursing Scholars held last March 7, 2013 at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
Six research studies from the CON graduating class of 2013 were accepted for oral and poster presentations. Besides Brazil, the other participants for oral presentations were Valerie E. Cubillas, Abegail Zyra J. Permites, Draece T. Tadulan, Triszha Faye M. Nabanggue, Irish Keith B. Villarin, and David Alip.
Accompanied by their coach John Paul Ben T. Silang, students Arvin C. Dela Vega, Von Jerold P. Buendia, Emmanuel Anthony A. Lagura, and Chelsea S. Berwin represented the college in the poster presentation categories which included subjects on Nursing Care of Special Population and Nursing and Health Promotion or Public Health. The three posters from the MSU-IIT were displayed with the other posters from Visayas and Luzon schools at the lobby of the St. Martin de Porres College of Medicine Bldg..
Dr. Ma. Irma Bustamente, a Filipino nursing theorist and an international nurse researcher, keynoted the conference with the theme “Translating Research Evidence into Practice.”
The conference provided an avenue to share knowledge in research facilitating research utilization and the translation of knowledge to practice.
