Another feat marked the history of the Cisco Academy Program of MSU-IIT as it officially launched St Peter’s College as a Cisco Local Academy in a Graduation Ceremony for “IT Essentials: PC Hardware and Software Trainer’s Training” on February 5, 2010 at the SPC-AVR . Fourteen successful trainees received their respective course completion certificates conferred by Dr. Emmanuel M. Lagare, Legal Main Contact of MSU-IIT Cisco Regional Academy and the current Vice President of Academic Affairs of the MSU System.
Speaking before the trainees, administration, and members of the faculty and students, Dr. Lagare emphasized that “with the collaborative efforts between MSU-IIT and St. Peter’s College , we can promote ICT in our city through the Cisco Networking Academy; hopefully to ensure an increasing number of globally-competent workforce in ICT fields as we address the demands from the Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) industries in Iligan City”.
Initiated by Mr. Freddie Sumangit, Dean of the College of Computer Science, the said training was held in an 80-hour rigid lecture, exams, and hands-on laboratory activities and online examinations, and conducted under the able and enthusiastic trainers, namely: Prof. Ernesto E. Empig, Engr. Roy Pamitalan, and Mr. Ranie Boy Agad. The training armed the participants with enhanced skills on the latest trends in Information and Communication Technology. Likewise, this course is aligned with the objectives of the first three modules of the EUCIP IT Administrator certifications: Module 1 PC Hardware, Module 2 Operating Systems, and Module 3 Local Area Networks and Network Services.
Such training started on December 11, 2009 and culminated on the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on February 5, 2010, between MSU-IIT and St. Peter’s College, making SPC a Cisco Local Academy of MSU-IIT. It meant to improve participants’ competency in: installation and navigation of an operating system; assembly of a desktop computer; Installation of peripherals and multimedia capabilities; conduct preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of a network, an operating system, a laptop, among others. It also aimed to upgrade the participants’ working knowledge and skills on computer hardware and software in preparation to the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ Certification Exams.
The graduation ceremony was well-supported by the SPC administration headed by Madame Carmelita P. Punongbayan, Chief Executive Officer; Mr. Peter Dan P. Punongbayan, the Registrar and Acting AEO for Administration, and Mr. Tito M. Mariquit, AEO for Academic Affairs, who assisted in the presentation of the graduates whose names are as follows: Warren Acain, Robert Amado, Jerome Arcenas, Desiree Ann Augusto, Rey Calanta-ol, Lomesindo Caparida, Rolando Cuizon, Olga Joy Labajo, Mylene Ocat, Ariane Roxas, Roger Roxas Jr, Freddie Sumangit, Jannette Tibudan, and Ernesto Villanueva.
