The Institute has joined the network of five ASEAN universities for Physical Education and Sports Science.

This was announced by Dr. Rebecca M. Alcuizar of the MSU-IIT’s College of Education (CEd) who was also chosen Coordinator from the Philippines.

Alcuizar said the decision was made during the recently-held ASEAN Universities Conference on Physical Education and Sports Science (AUCPESS) at the Mahasarakham University, Thailand in June this year. The conference was on its third year and had as theme “Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle and Sports Performance in the ASEAN region”.

As part of the network of ASEAN universities for PE and Sport Science, the MSU-IIT has the chance to host the event since hosting is rotated among the member-universities in the five ASEAN countries; the coordinator, a lecturer and two students presenting papers during the annual conference will be given free registration and accommodations for two nights; and, except those from Thailand, attendees receive 7,000 baht each for traveling expenses. Ten or more participants will pay only 2,000 baht upon registration online and are given free accommodations for two nights.

Six universities from five ASEAN countries that participated in the 3rd AUCPRESS this year were the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Each year, one of the ASEAN countries hosts the event. Next year, the conference is slated be held in Singapore according to Alcuizar.

The universities that participated in the AUCPRESS this year were: Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), Semarang State University (Indonesia), National Institute for Education, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), MSU-IIT, Srinakharinwirot University and Mahasarakham University (Thailand).

Aside from Alcuizar, the delegation to this year’s conference was composed of Dr. Corazon T. Biong, Prof. Arlene V. Reyes, Prof Cherlita C. Cudal, DPE Graduate Student – Rosevele Colegado and Mirian Aman, faculty member of the College of Sports Physical Education & Recreation (CSPEAR), MSU-Main Campus; Amphie Ampong, DepEd teacher of Pagadian City, and Dunhill Dufrens Nakamura from Surigao City; and, Dr. Lydie D.
