THE MINDANAO State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) with the University of Malaya (UM) in Malaysia and a Memorandum of Agreement with the Faculty of Business of Khon Kaen University (KKU) in Thailand.

The UM is the 70th among universities in the world, 19th in Asia, 3rd in Southeast Asia, and the top university in Malaysia according to the Advanced Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Rankings for 2020.

KKU, a public research university which was ranked 21st in Southeast Asia by Time Higher Education in 2009, and 4th in Thailand by The Office of Higher Education Commission, is currently a partner university of the Institute. It can be recalled that in 2013, the Institute signed first an MOU with KKU’s Faculty of Education.

The MoU and MOA promote student, academic and administrative staff exchange; joint research activities; exchange of publications, reports and other academic materials and information; and sharing of other activities and programs in areas of mutual interest where such sharing shall benefit involved parties.

The partnership with UM was initiated after Dr. M Niaz Asadullah, a Professor of Development Economics of UM’s Faculty of Economics and Administration, came to MSU-IIT as a Visiting Professor last February 1-10, 2019.  During his visit, Dr. Asadullah met with the Dean and Chairpersons of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy to explore possible areas for collaboration.

While in IIT, Dr. Asadullah gave a series of public lectures on Industry 4.0 and the Role of the AcademeDevelopment Issues:  Prospects and ChallengesWomen, Islam, and Development; and on Income and Happiness. He also conducted consultations and coaching sessions in research, fieldwork, and publications in Scopus and ISI-indexed journals.

Moreover, Dr. Asadullah conducted a joint Global Labor Organization (GLO)-MSU-IIT joint lecture on Education 4.0:  Technology, Teachers and Learners at the CED Amphitheater.  The event found its way to the GLO website.

The MOA with KKU-Faculty of Business was drafted and finalized after an initial meeting in Khon Kaen Business School last year, between Dr. Jaroenwanit and the MSU-IIT contingent headed by the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Alita T. Roxas and the subsequent coordination of CBAA’s Graduate Program Coordinator, Dr. Pamela F. Resurreccion.
