THE MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology hosted on November 25, 2019, the Iligan City leg of the Fulbright Road Show. Attended by students, teachers, and researchers from MSU-IIT, the road show aimed to orient participants of the scholarship and fellowship programs offered by Fulbright.
Mr. Julio “July” Amador III, the new Executive Director of the Philippine American Education Foundation (PAEF), the organization responsible for the administration of US educational exchange initiatives, had given participants information about the opportunities that the Fulbright Commission offers: Graduate Student program, Advanced Research and University Lecturing program, ASEAN Visiting Scholar Initiative, Philippine Agriculture Scholarship Program, Foreign Language Teaching Assistant, Hubert Humphrey Program and Global Undergraduate Exchange Program, among others. During the road show’s open forum, participants were given insightful tips on how to successfully get an offer.
Asst. Prof. Irish Mae Fernandez-Dalona, a faculty of the English Department and Fulbright – Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program alumna, shared her experience at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She said that the Fulbright experience allowed her to develop academically, but also made her even more thoughtful of giving back to other teachers like her and to the country in general.
Dalona spent eleven months in the United States as a Teaching Assistant who was in charge of assisting the Supervisor teaching the Filipino language to Filipino-American and American students. She also had the privilege to take courses related to her field of expertise and showcased the Filipino culture through various activities and programs.

The Fulbright Road Show continues in Cagayan de Oro City, Bukidnon, and Butuan to ensure that more deserving Mindanaoans were given the chance to fulfill their dreams of going to the US on an all-expense academic engagement.

The Fulbright Commission in the Philippines, the oldest among the 50 Fulbright commissions in the world, aims to promote mutual understanding in terms of education and culture between the Philippines and the US. Since 1948, nearly 3,000 Filipinos and 1,000 Americans have studied, researched, and taught in the US and in the Philippines under the Fulbright scholarship.
