The MSU-IIT Faculty Union (FU) celebrated for the first time World Teacher’s Day on October 5, 2016 at the Integrated Developmental School (IDS) Multi-Purpose Hall.
The celebration began with a Zumba dance followed by a short program with Dr. Imelu G. Mordeno delivering a short lecture on Depression and Suicide.
In an interview with the FU President, Prof. Santiago R. Evasco, Jr., he said that the topic was very timely especially with the recent suicide of one student. He said that the talk will make teachers be aware of the causes and how they can help reduce the risk of suicide among students.
After the lecture, there were raffles, group presentations, and games.
“Hopefully, this will become an institutional yearly activity to highlight the teachers, their roles, and rights,” Evasco said.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed the fifth of October to be World Teacher’s Day in 1994.
