WITH THE vision of being a world-class institution of higher learning, one of MSU-IIT’s strategies to collaborate with foreign universities is through the conduct of visiting lectures. On November 4, 2019, Assoc. Prof. Lemuel Clark P. Velasco of the College of Computer Studies and Fab Lab Mindanao manager conducted a lecture on Fabrication Laboratories and Maker Spaces at the Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

In the lecture, which was attended mostly by architecture and informatics undergraduate students, Velasco shared methodologies in democratizing access to digital fabrication in the facilitation of product and process innovation. A highlight of the lecture was also the best practices of how MSU-IIT has institutionalized programs of Fab Lab Mindanao in being a technology access center, training provider, service bureau and collaboration hub.

During this trip to Indonesia, Velasco also had collaborative meetings with Fab Lab Bandung and the Dorxlab Maker Space of the Universitas Gadjah Mada. Institutional collaboration between MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, Universitas AMIKOM Yogyakarta, and Universitas Gadjah Mada are already in its planning phase to include more visiting lectures and research collaboration.
