The Junior Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (JPICHE) – MSU-IIT Chapter, in collaboration with the Iligan Young Environment Advocates (IYEA), organized the 1st MSU-IIT Biopersity and Climate Change Students Forum at the CED Amphitheatrelast August 16, 2012.
The forum which served as an avenue to instil awareness about climate change and biopersity to young people attracted about 200 young people from different colleges and schools all over the city. It was also an opportunity to create a strong recruitment base for the IYEA.
The forum invited four speakers: Dr. Ermelinda Tobias who talked about government efforts for climate change mitigation and sustainability development, Dr. David Almarez who discussed the concepts of Philippine Biopersity, Dr. Mark Torres who shared his insights about Climate Change, Armed Conflict and Food Security and Gabriel Billones Jr., Focal Person of 350 Mindanao who re-echoed his learning from the East Asia Climate Change Leadership Training in Indonesia last month.
The forum was conducted through Powerpoint presentations, films, and dialogue, an event which was supported by some city officials. As a result of this, the delegates are expected to forge their own environmental pledges after the event.
