MSU-IIT Alumni Cebu Area Chapter organizes successfully

The IITians based in Cebu were the recently organized MSU-IIT Alumni Area Chapter last January 28, 2009 at Golden Cowrie Restaurant, Cebu City. The event was graced by Chancellor Marcelo P. Salazar, Prof. Darwin Manubag- the president of the Association of IIT Alumni Foundation, Ms. Bincol Macarambon and Ms. Chad Macarambon of the Office for Alumni Relations and Placement. The President of MSU-IIT Alumni Cagayan de Oro Chapter Joseph Enriquez also attended the affair.

There were more than sixty (60) alumni who attended the alumni assembly. One alumni commented that “the event is very important for them to strengthen the alumni network in Cebu because that are representing a number of industries in the city”. They were so excited to meet new friends and classmates during the occasion. Few alumni donated 2 lechon and freebies as door prizes.

Chancellor Salazar and Professor Manubag challenged the alumni to strengthen the alumni through the alumni database, jobs network, fellowship and sports, participation to the annual homecoming (July for college or December for high school), support to new graduates, alumni community program, annual alumni area gathering, sponsorship of cultural groups based in IIT, support to the scholarship program and help raise the MSU-IIT building fund.

Mr. Wilson Calderon – a CBA Alumni was elected Cebu Alumni Chapter President together with the members of the board as follows; Rodel Rapista, Leo Leopoldo , Shiokbee Osaraga, Eva Marie Gacasan, Juena Loren, Shandy Hamak, Giosippe “Jojo” Mohamadtaha, Jamila Hojas, Erich Marohombsar , Alex Mira-ato.

It can be recalled that there are already four alumni chapters all over the country created last year as follows: MSU-IIT Alumni Manila Chapter with Atty. Wilmar Arugay as President, MSU-IIT Alumni Laguna Area Chapter with Engr. Allison Alfeche as President, MSU-IIT Alumni Cagayan de Oro Chapter with Mr. Joseph Rodriquez as President, MSU-IIT Alumni Davao Chapter with Mr. Michael Marata as President. AIITAFI is exploring the creation of international chapters in Europe, Middle East, Australia and Asia. Two international events are lined up for this year which is the IITians in Singapore Fellowship on April 25, 2009 in Singapore and IITians Tapoktapok in Houston Texas on June 19-25, 2009 in the United States of America.

More chapters in the country are still to be organized to wit: February 28, 2009 in Dipolog and Pagadian Area and April 4, 2009 in General Santos Area. Other areas needing finalization of dates and venue are as follows: Surigao and Agusan Area, Cotabato Area, Cavite and Bohol Area.
