The Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) ranked 3rd out of 6 Philippine universities in the UI GreenMetric World Rankings 2020.

Overall, MSU-IIT is 548th out of 912 universities coming from different parts of the world.

The GreenMetric World University Ranking is initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010. The goal of this ranking system is to promote the reduction of carbon footprint and ultimately contribute to the mitigation of global climate change while recognizing universities who are exerting efforts towards this end.

Universities are ranked based on their scores in the following areas: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education and research. Results of the rankings were released on December 7, 2020, and the top-ranked universities were awarded in a virtual ceremony in Zoom and live-streamed over Youtube on the same day.

MSU-IIT’s rank has moved up by 72 notches since it joined GreenMetric in 2018. It has relatively improved its ranking even with the increased number of participating universities. Largely contributing to this improvement in the ranking are its sustainable practices in transportation as well as its emphasis on sustainability in education and research.
