College of Science and Mathematics Dean Dr. Ferdinand P. Jamil was the speaker during the 2016 Joint Seminar and Research Camp (JSRC) on Mathematical Science on February 11-22, 2016 at Niigata University, Niigata City, Japan.

Jamil talked on geodetic dominating sets in graphs while two MS Mathematics students, namely Mr. Longrio Platil and Ms. Abigail Villa read their papers during the event. Platil’s paper was titled “Lattices of Fuzzy sub KS-Semigroups” and Villa’s was titled “Some Hyper Homomorphic Properties on Hyper GR- Algebra”.

Supported by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), an independent administrative institution affiliated with the country’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Research Camp had at least 21 graduate students coming from 15 different universities in Asia. The participation of MSU-IIT is based on its existing memorandum of cooperation with the Faculty of Science of the Niigata University.

Other participating universities were Pukyong National University, Chung Yuan Christian University, National Sun Yat-Sen University, National Cheng-Kung University, National Changhua University of Education, National Taiwan Normal University, Chiang Mai University, Naresuan University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Northeastern University, University of Science & Technology of China, National Tsing Hua University, National Kaohsiung Normal University, and Niigata University.

The 12-day event included a series of paper presentations by the participants, an intensive course on Cloud Educational System, and a Symposium on Mathematical Science.

The students were accompanied by Dr. Christopher Ambe, Chairperson of the Chemistry Department, and Jamil.
