THE Institute’s newly-established Intellectual Property Unit (IPU) is organizing a Patent Drafting Workshop to be facilitated by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) on February 21-23, 2011 at the College of Nursing conference room here.

The Patent Drafting Workshop is aimed at teaching Institute faculty members and researchers how to come up with patent applications.

Dr. Olga M. Nuñeza, Vice Chancellor for Research & Extension, under whose office the IPU is attached, said that IP protection was vital to research and creative activities.

Ma. Esperanza P. Cruz, IPU head, said that the three-day workshop is MSU-IIT’s way of ensuring the protection of the intellectual properties generated by its own researchers.

IPOPHIL is sending over its experts to lecture on the following topics:

  1. Intellectual Property Rights;
  2. Trademarks;
  3. Patent Granting Procedure;
  4. Registration of Utility Model and Industrial Design;
  5. Basic Patent Search; and
  6. Patent Drafting

The experts from IPOPHIL will also conduct the workshop on patent drafting and carry on one-on-one consultations with the participants.
