AS THE YEAR comes to a close, MSU-IIT thanks its faculty and staff members by recognizing their hard work at a service excellence award ceremony held Friday afternoon (December 13) during its Year-End Social at the Institute Gymnasium.
Chancellor Sukarno D. Tanggol leads Institute officials in awarding plaques of appreciation to 24 faculty members and seven staff members who make up this year’s Outstanding MSU-IIT Employees.
The giving of the award is pursuant to the Institute’s Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) which, in turn, is based on a Civil Service requirement.
The PRAISE Award is different from the other service excellence-related award (Service Award) MSU-IIT gives out every July during its Charter Day celebration. The former is in recognition of the work and achievements of the employees while the latter is in recognition of their years of service.
PRAISE awardees also receive cash incentives on top of the plaque.
Prof. Sergio R. Canoy, Jr. of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) is once again chosen to receive the Institute Outstanding Faculty Award that comes with a 40,000-Peso cash prize.
This is Canoy’s third time to win the award that is given to a faculty member “who excels among his/her peers through distinguished and exemplary performance”.
The equivalent award for staff members is the Best Institute Administrative and Non-Teaching Employee Award, which is won by Dr. Muhammad M. Puting, the head of the Office of Medical, Dental, and Health Services (OMDHS).

Tanggol, who delivers an inspirational message during the awards ceremony, tells Institute constituents that the PRAISE award is a reward for deserving faculty and staff members for them to be emulated by others.
“Hopefully they will continue the good deeds the awardees have been giving to the Institute,” Tanggol says.
Tanggol also admits that the PRAISE is still a “program in progress” and that he hopes that after its third year of implementation, the Institute can now take the improved program to the Board of Regents for approval by 2020.
For his part, Prof. Feliciano B. Alagao, Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance and Chairperson of the PRAISE Awards Committee, informs employees that there were some modifications made to the implementation of the PRAISE this year.
“One change we adopted is in the nomination process, and some in the categories,” Alagao explains.
