Last June 27 and 28, 2013, MSU-IIT held its 11th Annual In-House Review (AIHR) of Research and Development (R & D) Projects where the College of Nursing (CON) fresh graduates triumphantly snatched both first and third place. Garnering First Place was presenter and author Jessa Mae Yuson with her co-authors Verna Shamaine Ardiente, Dennie Kate Pasco, and Loida Jane Beniga with their study entitled “Microorganisms on Surface Culture of Injection Port of IV Sets and Its Implication to Infection Control”. Coming in Third Place was presenter and author Lorenzo Miguel Abijay, with co-authors Joash Emmanuel Jao and Jason King Padrones and their study entitled “Dengue-Prone Barangays in Iligan City: Forecasting for Year 2014 and Risk Maps using Google Earth”.

The team of Ms. Yuson worked in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences with Mark Anthony Israel Jose from the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) as co-adviser.

Three research studies from the CON Class of 2013 were accepted for oral presentations. Besides the two aforementioned above, representing the college, was presenter and author Sheen Ray Valdez, with his co-authors Patriz Rainelle Acut, Mary Elumba, and Sarah Uy with their thesis entitled “Youth and the Global HIV Crisis”.

Together with their coaches and thesis advisers, namely: Prof. Gloria Shiela Coyoca, Prof. John Paul Ben Silang, and Prof. Khandy Lorraine Guerrero; Yuson, Abijay and Valdez showcased their studies in the oral presentation category of Environment, Biodiversity, Behavioral and Health Cluster.

Also awarded in the Extension Category are the CON faculties together with the IIT Department of Extension as chair of the Wellness and Sanitation Area in a joint extension project called WE CARE: Pagtambayayong sa Paglambo sa Tibanga Program. Ms. Karen R. Veloso and Prof. Jiddo Andrei Maranda spearheaded the College.

To this day, the AIHR provided an avenue to share knowledge in research facilitating research utilization and the translation of knowledge to practice and forwards MSU-IIT’s goal to be an institute that centers upon research.
