Dr. Sheevun Di O. Guliman, CPA of the Department of the Accountancy, College of Business Administration and Accountancy won the prestigious Outstanding Finance Educator (OFE) of the Philippines Award for 2018 given by the Finance Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) and Deloitte Philippines, one of the Big 4 accounting firms in the world. The award was given during the culmination program of the annual search on October 3, 2018 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati. The awarding was attended by all FINEX members and Presidential Adviser on Entrepreneurship, Joey Concepcion.
Dr. Guliman bested 39 finance educators in the nation-wide search. The award was granted after a competitive 2-step process starting with screening of each faculty recommended by a school or local FINEX chapter based on the following criteria: Instruction Efficiency, Research Outputs, Community Involvement and Student Support. From October 1- 3, the five finalists were then subjected to final selection. First, an on-the-spot essay writing on the Build, Build, Build thrust of the Duterte Administration and its effects on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country and the economic health of financial institutions. The final phase was the interview by the panel composed of luminaries in finance: CEOs of Deloitte Phils. and Punongbayan & Araullo Grant Thornton (another of the Big 4 accounting firms in the world), the Chairman of the Business School Committee of the FINEX Foundation and past FINEX presidents.
Regional winners were also awarded during the program – one for Luzon and the other for Mindanao. No educator from the NCR and Visayas qualified for the regional award.
Dr. Guliman was the OFE for Mindanao in 2013. She completed her MS Finance at the UP Diliman in 2009. She was the coach who brought the MSU-IIT teams to the national championship rounds of the Inter Collegiate Finance Competitions sponsored by FINEX before she pursued her Ph.D in Business.
She now joins the roster of prominent Outstanding Finance Educators of the Philippines. Dr. Guliman handles the undergraduate and graduate finance courses in the CBAA.
