In response to one of the needs of students who are writing their thesis this semester, the Department of Professional Education (DPRE) of the College of Education (CED) conducted a “Training on Data Management” last February 6, 2010 at CED-ICT Lab. Prof. Rebecca S. Galela, one of the faculty members of CED and training resource speaker, gave a lecture and hands-on activity to the participating students on managing gathered data using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. She also reviewed to them the important points to consider in the analysis and interpretation of results. Moreover, Prof. Amelia T. Buan, another faculty member of the college, shared her knowledge and skills on using Microsoft Excel as another practical tool in the statistical treatment of data.

Data management has been a recurring problem of most students who are working on their thesis as observed in the college. It has caused them to incur more expenses, especially in paying for a statistician. With this endeavor, it is hoped that the students will foster a better sense of independence and enthusiasm in doing their thesis and other future researches.
