John Paul Ben T. Silang with his paper entitled “The Influence of Geriatric Caring on the Parenting Skills of Mothers in Selected Barangays in Iligan City, Philippines” and another entitled “Dengue-Prone Barangays in Iligan City: Forecasting for Year 2014 and Risk Maps Using Google Earth” which he co-authored with L. Abijay, J. Padrones, and J. E. Jao were presented during the Annual Health Conference organized by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia on October 5 this year.
The annual conference with the theme “Understanding infections in Health Care – The Recent Updates” aimed at new scientific enquiries and academic discourse relating to infection issues.
The two-day conference held at the Hotel Istana I Kuala Lumpur was designed to cover the breadth of infections and healthcare with the recent medical practice and management including nursing care. Twelve main topics were discussed in the event such as community acquired infection in children, infectious diseases during disaster, infection risk to health care professionals, vaccination for Hajj and Umrah, infection among geriatrics and the disabled, dengue, tuberculosis, leprosy and zoonotic diseases. The program comprised with plenary lectures, symposiums, expert discussions and paper presentation competition.
On the second day, the paper entitled “Antimicrobial Self-medication among Survivors of Tropical Storm Washi in Major Relocation Areas in Iligan City” which Silang co-authored with V.J. Buendia, M.J. Hibaya, and D.G. Padilla.
During the closing and awarding ceremony, the only other Filipino delegate from the University of the Philippines was declared as best oral presenter along with thedelegate from the Universiti Sains Islamic Malaysia was declared as the best poster presenter.
