The City Government of Iligan and the MSU-IIT entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to cooperate on various areas to further realize the City Development Plan.

The MOA identified significant areas that could help the City government launch new projects and/or enhance implemented projects by turning to the expertise of the Institute’s faculty and extension workers in a MOA signing on February 3, 2014 at Buhanginan,City Hall.

The MOA is envisioned to be long-term, comprehensive and institutional and to be beneficial to both parties. The lead partner identified in this agreement is the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Extension’s (OVCRE) Department of Extension (DE) and the heads of the different departments of the City Government.

An earlier meeting on April 22, 2014 was attended by the City Government’s Department Heads with the Institute representatives, Dr. Nimfa Bracamonte (DE Director), Prof. Darwin Manubag of the CASS Political Science Department, Prof. Phyllis Marie S. Teanco, Legal Office, Dr. Feliciano Alagao, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development and OVCRE Vice Chancellor Dr. Jinky Bornales.

In this meeting, key areas as subjects of concern for both the City Government and the Institute were identified. Among these are: 1) Agricultural development and food security; 2) Peace and order; 3) Water, Health and Sanitation; 4) Good Governance; 5) Environmental Management; 6) Business Promotion and Investment; 7) Transport; and 8)Tourism/infrastructure.

The Institute’s academic units with existing extension projects in these areas would coordinate with the pertinent departments of the City Government to realize the projects.

A second meeting and workshop included an orientation for the Institute team on the City’s Development Plan. This was held on June 5, 2014 at the Macapagal Macaraeg House. About seven clusters were identified and in August this year, the various projects and other programs of collaboration will be launched. – Contributed news for OC-OPI.
