Professor Dr. Ruben L. Abucayon and 18 BEED English students of the College of Education (CED) participated in the 2nd National Convention of the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), National Student Chapter of the Philippines.

The convention which discussed the theme on “Educating for Peace and Harmony with the Earth and Ourselves” was held last February 28, 2013 at the Meralco Hall, Ortigas Ext. Avenue, Pasig City.
The convention links students with the WCCI and advocates the preservation and care for Mother Earth in the family, school, and community. It also establishes harmonious networking relationships among the members of the Special Interest Groups while increasing the members’ perspective of global educators.
Dr. Graciano C. Yumul Jr., scientist and former DOST Undersecretary on Climate Change and Realities, addressed the body with his keynote speech.
A Board Member of the WCCI Philippine Chapter, Abucayon who facilitated the Special Interest Group Workshop, presented his keynote speech. The Group Workshop shares information and best practices on Information and Communications Technology in Education.

In the convention, Lourdes Ann E. Sundon, a junior BEED-English student, was elected WCCI Philippine National Student Chapter Vice President for Mindanao, a position she will occupy for school year 2013-2014.
The group took the opportunity of this visit to explore the teaching and learning atmospheres of Miriam College, Ateneo de Manila University, and the University of the Philippines. The students interviewed teachers and observed classes which are reputedly the benchmarks of the best practices in basic education.
The MSU-IIT CED has been accredited as a Center for WCCI Philippine National Student Chapter for Mindanao.
