Dr. Ruben L. Abucayon and 29 BEED English students of the College of Education (CED) joined the first National Convention of the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), National Student Chapter of the Philippines.
This launch was held at the Meralco Hall, Ortigas Avenue in Pasig City last March 3, 2012.
The convention affiliates students with the WCCI, a convention that hopes to inspire student teachers to emulate the ideas of Dr. Jose Rizal, a direction emphasized by noted historian and Rizal scholar Dr. Ambeth Ocampo.
The convention, highlighted by the speech of Dr. Teresita Pedrajas, WCCI International Vice President, gave the MSU-IIT team a chance to meet peers from other institutions and share information and practices. The WCCI relates with the MSU-IIT through Abucayon, Philippine Chapter Board Member.
In the workshops, the MSU-IIT group won the Best Workshop Output and in the Q and A portion where the topic was Rizal.
Meanwhile, Marywinbee Visitacion, a junior BEED-English student and Vice President of the Society of Elementary English Educators (SEEED) of MSU-IIT, was elected National Chapter Vice President for Mindanao.
During this tour, the group visited Ateneo de Manila University Grade School and University of the Philippines Integrated School to learn about how grade school teaching and learning is done the UPIS and Ateneo ways. The visits allowed the students to interview teachers and observe classes which are reputedly the benchmarks of the best practices in basic education.
