The College of Education-Integrated Developmental School (CED-IDS) students participated in the UNESCO Bangkok ICT in Education KFIT International School Project (KISP). Grade 7 and primary school students from Bangladesh, Canada, China, Korea, Malaysia, and the Philippines joined the Project-Based Learning (PBL) and its collaborative activities.
The KISP was launched via teleconference last March 5, 2012. Sessions held during the summer of 2012 culminated last July 26, 2012. Representing the Philippines were Ms. Angeline P. Dinoro (MSU-IIT-IDS) and Mr. Dan Capangpangan (Iligan City National High School) with their students. Ms. Rhea Febro (TEI-MSU-IIT) supervised the implementation and conduct of the project.
The activity involved three major phases opening with introductions of school and country (http:// www. youtube: com/watch?v=YpelT9B9Tsk) and the featuring of “Out of the Ordinary” places, things, or spots in the community. Featured were the Wow Iligan golf course (www.wowiligangolf.weebly.com), Buhanginan Hill (buhanginanhill.tumblr.com), and the Startanilla, the horse-drawn tartanilya of Iligan (startanilladeiliganph.weebly.com).
The activity was showcased at the Iligan City National High School in May 2012.
The third phase “Weather Calendar around the World” was an international collaboration among student-participants and teacher-facilitators from the different countries. Dubbed “It’s Time to Celebrate!” the activity was held at the CED Amphitheater last July 26, 2012. Attending were Dr. Edgar W. Ignacio, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Esmar N. Sedurifa, the Dean of the CED, Prof. Leila V. Bernaldez, IDS Principal, faculty members of the Iligan City National High School, teachers, and the staff of the IIT-MiCel.
