Two faculty members and the Dean of the MSU-IIT College of Education (CED) represented the Institute in the regional seminar on Innovative ICT Practices in Teaching and Learning at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand last Oct 3-5, 2011.

The CED is a Teacher Education Institution which facilitated the Project-Based Learning and Telecollaboration Workshop (conducted by UNESCO Bangkok) in Cagayan de Oro last February participated in by selected teachers from ten schools in Iligan.

CED Dean Esmar N. Sedurifa with Ms. Rhea Febro, the UNESCO coordinator for MSU-IIT, and Mrs. Nila Villaver, Principal of Iligan City East High School-Hinaplanon, attended along with two other teachers from Iligan who also participated in implementing the UNESCO project.

Jerrold P. Ello of the CED – Integrated Developmental School (IDS) presented an interdisciplinary and collaborative Project-Based Learning (PBL) activity on household energy conservation measures entitled “Electrical Energy: Use Me Wisely,” a project of the 4th year high school students of the IDS.

Mrs. Jocelyn B. Subang of the Iligan City East High School – Sta. Filomena also presented her collaborative PBL on Indigenous Food Festival entitled “Pasundayag sa Banikanhong Kalan-on.”

Sponsored by the UNESCO Asia and the Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, and co-organized by the British Council, the seminar provided a platform for more than 50 teachers and school administrators across the East and Southeast Asia to share and learn promising and innovative practices of ICT-integrated teaching and learning.

Named speakers of various disciplines facilitated the conduct of the seminar: Shelly Terrel, Social Media Consultant for Teaching and Learning from Texas; Prof. Alain Breuleuz of McGill University, Canada; Prof. Cher-Ping Lim of Hong Kong Institute of Education; Thanomporn Laohajaratsang of Chiang Mai University; Felicia Brown of Microsoft; Russell Campbell of Intel; Prof. Jaywon Lee of the Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; David Mathias from the British Council; and Jago Gazendam from the New International University of Thailand.
