As one of the highlights of its 25th Anniversary Celebration, the College of Education (CED) successfully held a Teachers’ Forum on January 23, 2010 with the theme: Classroom-Based Researches: ICT Integration in the Curriculum. It was participated by teachers from different public and private schools in Iligan City, some student teachers of the CED, CPRT (Certificate on Professional Teaching) students, and ATEP (Accelerated Teacher Education Program) scholars. It was a worthwhile opportunity of learning from the remarkable speakers who shared their expertise in promoting learning in the classroom of today’s generation.
Ms. Celia R. Balbin of the UP-NISMED, the first plenary speaker, talked about Ensuring Students Success through Assessment. She tackled about the great role of a teacher in helping and guiding a student to succeed in school through the proper use of various forms of “assessment for learning”. On the other hand, the second plenary speaker, Ms. Liezl Formilleza-Dunuan of FIT-ED (Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development, Inc.), discussed about Research Capability Building within the Community of Learning. She emphasized on the formation of communities of learning between and among learning institutions in order to promote and practice the culture of conducting researches to resolve the perennial instructional problems.
Moreover, various researches on ICT integration and classroom-based action researches of some ICoLAR (Iligan Community of Learning Action Research) Project members were also presented during the parallel sessions. In her message, Dr. Olga M. Nuñeza, Vice-Chancellor for Research and Extension, extended her appreciation and commendation to the College of Education for organizing such event. In fact, along with the Dean of CED, Dr. Lydie D. Paderanga, she proposed that it will become a regular undertaking in the college.
With the utmost support and cooperation of the members of the working committees and the college administration, the said first of a kind event was a big success.
