CBAA graduate faculty, Dr. Pamela F. Resurreccion, gave a talk on case teaching as a learning strategy in Bukidnon State University (BukSU) and the Council of Business Education Deans and Program Heads (COBEDAPH) – Region 10 last on November 17, 2017 and November 28, 2017, respectively.

The talk on case teaching in BukSU, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon is part of the echo training required of participants to the Mindanao Case Teaching Workshop held in Davao City last September 28-30, 2017. Dr. Resurreccion provided feedback on the case teaching demonstrations during the echo training as well as gave a lecturette on the Art of Questioning, emphasizing that asking appropriate questions is at the heart of case teaching. Meanwhile, the lecture with COBEDAPH – Region 10 at Pearlmont Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City is part of the organization’s thrust to provide opportunities for training and development to its members. The goal of COBEDAPH – Region 10 under the leadership of its President, Dr. Elizabeth Figueroa of Capitol University, is to orient the business education Deans and Program Heads of Northern Mindanao on case teaching as one of the ways to promote active learning.

Dr. Resurreccion, an alumni of the Case Teaching and Case Writing Training organized by USAID – STRIDE and delivered by the William Davidson Institute of the University of Michigan, is one of the movers of the Mindanao Academic Case Developers Consortium (MACDC) whose aims are to (1) promote and advocate the use of case study approach or methodology in academic learning within the Mindanao setting; (2) provide a venue for enhancing skills of Mindanao teachers/professors in case teaching; (3) sustain development of case studies on various areas of interest in Mindanao governance, science and technology, entrepreneurship and management, peace and order, Mindanao culture, gender and development, among others; and (4) establish continuing collaboration between and among industry players, development institutions, government and higher education institutions (HEIs) in Mindanao.

The two engagements on promoting case teaching as a learning approach is part of the continuing initiatives of MACDC where MSU-IIT is a member.
