This year, the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) celebrates its 30th Foundation day on January 25, 2014.

CASS originally belonged to the School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) and renamed in 1984 as an independent College during the 120th Meeting of the MSU Board or Regents on January 24, 1984 by the virtue of BOR Resolution No. 18, s.1984.

The College marks its Pearl Anniversary with a one-day line up of activities with the theme, “Celebrating 30 years of Transformative Education in the Arts and Social Sciences.”

The CASS will have a thanksgiving ecumenical service in the morning of January 24 at the CASS Lobby to be followed by a blessing of the newly-renovated CASS Rooftop Theater which is also going to be the venue of a program honoring faculty and staff members who have been with the College since 1984.

A total of 33 awardees will be given service awards including Luvizminda C. De la Cruz and Emma B. Magracia who may be retired faculty members but who will receive recognition for their continued service at the CASS as Professorial Lecturers. The rest of the awardees are:

Department of English – Rosie E. Boniao, Lorna T. Caponong, Rhodora N. Englis, Loreta L. Fajardo, Steven Patrick C. Fernandez, Christine Godinez Ortega, Faith O. Miguel, Rosemarie B. Purganan, Saturnina S. Rodil, and Ma. Theresa S. Villabona;

Department of Filipino– Lydia L. Mata, Angelina L. Santos, and Teresita P. Semorlan;

Department of History– Nora A. Clar, Jamail A. Kamlian, and Geoffrey G. Salgado;

Department of Political Science– David N. Almarez, Elizabeth L. Codilla, Felicidad C. Gadiano, and Marilou F.S. Nanaman;

Department of Psychology– Alma G. Maranda and Cora E. Lim;

Department of Sociology– Nimfa L. Bracamonte, Myrma Jean A. Mendoza, Sulpecia L. Ponce, and Liwayway S. Villoria;

Department of Philosophy and Humanities– Omar O. Bataluna, Francisco A. Englis, Julie O. Lao, Prof. Bernardino V. Cuino, Jr.;
and, from the Office of the Dean– Elena M. Bobonga.

Student activities in the afternoon are also being prepared by the Student Executive Council Officers of the College.

CASS students will be grouped not according to their respective departments but will be randomly mixed with other students ensuring that in CASS there is unity.

Memorandum Order No. 14-011 OVCAA grants CASS the authority to celebrate its 30th Year and all classes are suspended in CASS on the said date.
