The Junior Philippine Economic Society (JPES) successfully held the National Quiz Contest: Clash of the Economists at the School of Economics of the University of the Philippines-Diliman in Quezon City, Manila last March 25, 2017.

Two teams from MSU-IIT represented Mindanao. Delegates Amethyst A. Galos and Dejim D. Edolsa got fourth place and Noemie Kristine B. Mainar and Denmichael Neil C. Estillore took the fifth place in the competition. This was the first national economics competition that MSUIIT- JES partcipated. 

The event was the culmination of a competition featuring JPES member schools from all over the country. The contest held regional qualifiers from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and NCR last December 2016. The two winning teams from each region in qualifiers vied for the championship in the finals. In the end, Representatives Christian Regie Jabagat and Jannico Cabañero from UP-Diliman edged out 7 other teams to become the 2017 National Champions. Joshua Casimiro and Jonas Alan Oblefias, and Gerome Carl Retamal from UP-Los Baños were First runner-ups and Second runner-up respectively.


The competition featured students from MSU-IIT Junior Economics Society (Mindanao), University of San Carlos Carolinians Economics Society (Visayas), UP-Los Baños Economics Society (Luzon), and UP-Diliman Economics Towards Consciousness (NCR). The faculty member who coached and chaperoned the MSU-IIT delegates was Ms. Charlyn M. Maybituin. The organizer for the event was the Junior Philippine Economic Society (JPES), which is a confederation of Economics organizations from various universities and colleges in the Philippines. It is the junior arm of the Philippine Economic Society (PES). The competition was conducted as part of their drive towards their goal of uniting the economic societies all over the Philippines and as another step towards their goal of realizing opportunities without boundaries.
