Iligan City, Philippines – Some 3,000 students of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) here will attempt to break into the Guinness Book of World Records on Sept. 1 when they will sing the National Anthem in unison.

Arnold Garbanzos, president of the Rotary Club of Iligan, who is spearheading the feat, said they hope to break the record for the “most number of people singing the national anthem simultaneously” set by 264 people in Hatikva, Israel on May 7, 2008.

The Israeli feat was meant to bridge linguistic and cultural differences among the Jewish people.

Guinness has processed and issued identification number 250808 for the attempt of the MSU-IIT students to sing the National Anthem simultaneously at the school’s 4,000-seat gymnasium, to promote peace and unity in Mindanao.
